The two led Highland to nine playoff appearances and six league titles in their time together. Jones was Carpenter’s longtime offensive line coach. Jones took over for legendary play-caller Chad Carpenter, who won 113 games in 17 seasons with Highland before retiring in 2018. Jones stepped down in December after 15 years with the program, telling the Mount Vernon News he needed to spend more time with his family (both of his daughters play fall sports at Highland). Stover will replace Matt Jones, who went 8-11 over two seasons as head coach. Clairsville and Galion (also a future MOAC opponent). Stover served as Westerville North’s dean of students before becoming Highland’s assistant high school principal in 2019. He is a Bowling Green State University graduate, having played football for the Falcons from 1996-1999. Stover served as the team’s defensive coordinator during the last two seasons, and previously held assistant coaching positions at Big Walnut and Westerville North. Highland’s school board unanimously approved the hire at its meeting Wednesday night. Ty Stover will be Highland’s next head football coach, Athletic Director Mike DeLaney announced Thursday.
